Energy Medicine in a Pandemic

What is your role in the time of COVID?

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, there doesn’t seem to be one “best practice” in terms of what you can do to guarantee you’ll be protected.

However, there are best practices for keeping our bodies healthy and strong. Following those practices will give you a way to help yourself should you contract the virus.

I’m not talking about what we all want the answer to be: watching what you eat, taking your prescribed medications, and exercising according to what you read or believe is correct.

I’m talking about becoming one with your body and mind while cultivating awareness of behaviors that can weaken your physical body and emotional state. Learning to do these things will allow you to strengthen your defenses against COVID.

Energy medicine is about understanding that everything in your life is energy. The positive and negative energies both have their effect on you, and neutralizing energy keeps you balanced.

That means that too many negative and/or positive behaviors can throw you out of balance. And when you’re out of balance, your body is in a weakened state.

I talk to so many people who believe if they do (or take) A, B, and C, COVID will have no effect on them. Then, if they are affected by the virus, they’re left feeling hopeless and defeated.

The key is to learn that there’s no one-size-fits-all in anything. The things that weaken you are specific to you, as an individual.

So many people are so shocked when someone who appears to be healthy gets sick. They wonder how that could possibly happen. I think the question we should be asking is, “What is the guideline by which we define health?”

Many things can affect your health and weaken your ability to fight COVID, aside from traditional health guidelines.

  1. Diet

One possibility is your diet, both not getting enough nutrients or following an obsessively “healthy” (or restrictive) diet. In reality, what you eat shouldn’t be based on beliefs or commonly accepted norms of health. Your nutrition should be based on an understanding of which foods fuel your body the best and the ability to listen to what your body is telling you when you eat certain things. If some foods make you feel bloated and tired, all of your energy is going to fight that imbalance instead of protecting or healing you from the virus.

Some people tell me that they don’t feel any different whether they’re eating healthy or eating junk food. If you’re one of those people, I invite you to investigate that statement. Is it that your body isn’t reacting or is it a lack of awareness? Where else are you lacking awareness in your life?

If you’re unaware of the effect of food on your body, you’re probably equally unaware of people or your effect on them, environmental toxins and their effect, etc. This can be a dangerous place to find yourself! You open yourself up to a lot of risks when you’re living in this state, right down to, “I didn’t feel ill, so I never knew I was sick.”

Lack of awareness is far-reaching. It’s a chaotic state that a lot of people live in every day.

  1. Rest & stress

Too much sleep or not enough sleep can also affect your health. These are issues that you need to be aware of, instead of pushing your body to meet the needs of your daily agenda.

What about your daily stress? When you’re living in reaction mode, allowing others to control your time and emotions and causing more chaos for yourself, you’re depleting your energy and leaving your body vulnerable.

  1. Exercise

A sedentary lifestyle weakens the immune system. On the other hand, an aggressive workout routine can break down your body, as well, especially if you’re not connected within, resting, and fueling properly post-workout.

Instead, start with a plan, but listen to what your body is telling you in the meantime. What makes you feel more energized? What alleviates joint issues and reduces your stress? Your body will give you the answers to all of these questions.

  1. Lack of connection to yourself

Do you see a theme here? Becoming aware, mindful, and present in your body can protect you in every instance of your life.

To that end, you also need to strengthen your own personal connection. In other words, do things that nourish your Body Within: reading, quiet time, hobbies, volunteering, etc. It’s up to you! Find some things that make you feel accomplished and whole, instead of focusing on the media and various other things that you have no control over.

___

Don’t get overwhelmed and think that if you can’t do all of these things by tomorrow, you’re going to catch COVID.

The key is to sit quietly and ask to see what you need to see to improve.

Let the epiphanies come as they may, and act on them. Many little changes add up to big changes eventually.

As long as you’re adding positive energy to your space and depleting the chaotic energy, negative things, like COVID, are less likely to stick.

While there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for any health issue, one thing I’ve learned from 20 years of experience is…

Chaos Breeds Chaos. Balance Breeds Peace.

So start creating balance, and become your own best practice against COVID.
