Get Curious About Health & Healing

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it will save you!

I was chatting with a friend the other day, and she talked about how she felt that the lack of curiosity in the world is the source of a lot of our collective problems.

I happen to believe the same thing, and I witness it daily. Somehow, we have programmed ourselves to read something, and if it serves our agenda, we stop there. We don’t become curious about the author, why he/she wrote it, and whether or not it’s reliable. And we certainly don’t do any further investigation.

And it’s taking a toll on our health and healing.

One of the best examples of this phenomenon is the fact that 42.4% of American adults are obese. Most of them take their blood sugar and cholesterol meds and maybe even try fad diets periodically. In other words, they settle for ‘quick fixes’ so they don’t have to become curious about what will happen if they do nothing.

I find the same can be said about the vaccine. So many people are against the vaccine, making it all about the side effects, etc. That being the case, however, I have a hard time making them curious about the virus. What if they get it? Will they infect others that are weak? Do they have a way to fight it? The conversation usually comes to a screeching halt when I encourage people to get curious about these issues.

As I said, everyone is reading what feeds their own agenda, not investigating the real issue.

The same could be said about exercise. So many people skirt around the issue, reading quick fixes and routines that fit their agenda. Meanwhile, they never get curious about the health problems that can arise from lack of movement as they age: bone density issues, stability issues, flexibility, and any number of illnesses.

What about grocery shopping and cooking? The path of least resistance is the one that most of us choose. That’s why there’s an abundance of prepared meals throughout the stores and in society. What if, instead of choosing whatever is easiest, you started getting curious about what nutrients you need for your health and how to prepare them?

We can even take it one step further, beyond the realm of health and healing. Let’s take a moment to consider our relationships. A lot of people, especially in the younger generations, are so independent and strong in who they are that they tolerate very little from others unless it serves their own agenda. What if, instead of shutting people down when we disagree with them, we started getting curious about the reasons why others think the way they do.

I don’t have the answers to what would happen in all of these different situations. Will increased curiosity have a positive effect on your quality of life? I’m not sure.

What I do know is that curiosity saved my life. If I hadn’t been curious about my own health and healing, I would be disabled and very ill. Instead, I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been and getting stronger daily.

I’m helping you and others to see that there is always more than what meets the eye.

I also know we all have tools within ourselves to problem-solve all of our health and wellness issues, while healing the world around us.

That, my friends, is how curiosity can save you!
