Healing Yourself: What Wave Are You Riding?

The journey to healing yourself is full of ‘quick fixes’ and ‘trending solutions.’ Everything, including the latest trends, is energy- positive, negative or neutral.

What happens when you feed that energy?

Well, it all depends on which type of energy you’re feeding.

For example, I had a client come in the other day, and she was just not herself. After spending some time picking apart the things that have changed since I last saw her, I learned that she was doing a celery juice cleanse. If you’re not familiar with this type of cleanse, it basically involves drinking large amounts of celery juice because it’s supposed to be “good for you.”

I wish this was my first time dealing with this type of situation, but unfortunately, I see it all the time.

I started questioning my client about why she thinks celery juice is her health answer.

If you are learning more about healing yourself, try answering these questions to examine any new health trend and inform your independent research.

“What drew you to this ‘miracle’ that the rest of us don’t know about?”

“Why is it supposed to be good for you? What are the specific health benefits?”

“Who gave you this advice?”

“How have you felt since you started following these recommendations?”

“Do you feel it’s giving you the expected results?”

“Are there any side effects?”

I ask all my clients these types of questions when they come in talking about a new trend for health and wellness.

A common answer I hear from almost everyone is this: “They say it’s supposed to be good for you.”

Who are they?

The more I ask who they are, the more people seem to get frustrated.

That’s because they don’t even know the actual source most of the time!

This is what I call an ‘energy wave.’

There is a book out there by the medical medium telling readers to “drink celery juice,” and they’ll be healthier.

One person reads the book, starts following it, and before they even know whether or not it works, they tell everyone they know how great it is so they don’t have to do it alone. The next person does the same thing, and the next -  until it becomes an energy wave!

All of a sudden, this theory turns into a health and wellness solution that’s supposed to be good for you- long before anyone actually drinks it and determines its effectiveness.

Is it the cure-all?

NO!

It’s just a quick and easy answer so that people don’t have to go inward and make healthy changes.

And it’s not just celery juice! You name the ‘magic cure,’ I’ve seen it all!

For example, personal trainers finish a weekend seminar and go home with new exercises to fix you and drinks to fuel you.

Alternative medicine practitioners come home from a weekend seminar with new supplement protocols, tests and new treatments for a diagnosis that medicine doesn’t have access to.

And a lot of it is funded by supplement companies and/or the companies with the new testing and products.

That’s what I call the ‘treatment of the month.’

Are these ‘health trends’ and ‘cure-all’s’ good for you?

I can’t answer that.

What I do know is this: if you pick apart the story all the way to the beginning, the medical medium gets his answers from a spirit guide, and the practitioners get their exercise and treatments from supplement companies and sports enhancement companies.

(By the way, some of those companies and their representatives are making as much money as the drug companies.)

Somehow, a lot of people have beliefs that if it doesn’t come from western medicine and it’s all-natural, then it has to be good for you.

Just ride the wave, and you’ll find out for yourself if you want to be a part of it.

If not knowing where the answers come from is okay with you, then go for it. If it’s not, stop the energy wave, and do your homework. Find out exactly what you’re doing to your body and what the effects may be.

You may find that many ‘trends’ set you back a few steps in the journey to healing yourself! Some of these waves are good, but unfortunately, I see a lot more damage than healing: muscle loss, bone loss, digestion issues, lost money and problems in relationships.

The world is full of quick fixes, and that includes your office, family gatherings and even conversations with people you trust.

And don’t forget the financial interests of the companies selling you this stuff. Those companies love the fact that we’re all so desperate to not look in the mirror at our health choices because then they can sell us whatever they want as long as it sounds good.

My question to you is… what wave are you riding? Are you riding the wave that helps you get to know yourself better so you don’t fall prey to quick fixes and empty promises? Or are you buying into the wave that promises if you do xyz cleanse, you’ll be fixed, lose weight, grow hair, get in shape, win the lottery, etc. ?
