Quiet Time Before Bed

Sleep is the most important thing you can do to keep yourself healthy, balanced, and focused.

Many of us have a hard time getting restful sleep, falling asleep, staying asleep, or even waking up.

We do most of our healing and repairing from our day when sleeping. If you take the time to stretch things out and bring your body back to balance, the body has a much better chance of healing and correcting imbalances rather than always being tight and misaligned.

Try This:

  • Take 20 minutes before bed, put on quiet music

  • Lie on the floor (or on your bed without a pillow) and do basic stretches and breath clearing exercises

If you are unsure what to do, you can follow my guided stretch and sleep meditation.

  • Pay attention to how tight your muscles are and focus on breathing and relaxing

  • Try to learn what your body feels like as a whole, so you will have a sense if your body is different at the end of the day

If you cannot find the 20 minutes to rest quietly at the end of your day, ask yourself: What is more important than my immediate and long-term health? You might be surprised at what you think is more important than you and how you function every day

Ask Yourself:

Do you want to sleep with balance or chaos in your body? Try to learn about yourself and see if your sleep is improving as you continue to stretch and meditate before bed.

  • What kind of day did you have, was it stressful? Emotionally, physically?

  • Are your muscles tight? Is your mind racing?

  • Do you sit all day so your back is tight?

  • Do you have physical issues that will worsen over time if you do not address them; like a bad knee or sore hip?

  • Do you have pain or weakness in your muscles?

  • Do you want to go to bed for 7 hours and bring all that stress with you?

Remember the stress you live daily not only affects us now, but also how you age. There is no right or wrong in how this turns out, there is only you, observing how you look at your wellbeing in relation to the rest of your life.

If you need a bit more guidance, I’m hosting an online workshop on Exercise and Sleep on June 4th at 6pm EST.
